TOTAL VISITORS FROM 2008:

BERSIH 3 67

1. Sunday’s Bersih 3 demonstration is no doubt the biggest and the most violent in the series. It is likely that future Bersih will be even bigger and more violent.

2. The stated objective is to demand that elections be cleaner and fairer. But is this the real objective? I think not. Malaysian elections have been more clean than those in the authoritarian countries where results have always been obviously fixed. There would always be 99.9% of the votes going to the Government party or the President. If at all the opposition were to win, it would get at best 10% of the seats contested. After that the opposition would be prevented from taking their places in the legislature.

3. But in Malaysia there has never been an election, whether at State or Federal levels when the opposition had not won a substantial number of seats. In fact whole states may be lost to the opposition. And no matter how the Government party tried, it just could not wrest Kelantan from the opposition.

4. At different elections throughout Independence different states were won by the opposition. Kelantan voted for the opposition in 1964 and 1969. In 1974 when PAS joined the Barisan Nasional, Kelantan was won by BN but continued to remain under PAS. It was lost to the BN only in 1978 but reverted to the opposition in subsequent elections.

5. Penang went to the opposition in 1969. In that election Perak and Selangor could not form Governments as neither the opposition nor the Government party had a clear majority.

6. Sabah was also lost to the opposition in one of the elections.

7. The worst result for the Government Party i.e. the party controlling the Federal Government was in 2008 when BN lost five States and one federal territory.

8. At the Federal level although the Government party never lost, but its majority was not constant. In 1969 it virtually lost, winning with an unworkable majority. In other elections the margin were sometimes above two-thirds and sometimes below two-thirds. In 2008 it won such a slim majority that there was real possibility that it would fall because a significant number of BN members of Parliament were expected to switch to the opposition.

9. The lack of consistency and absence of any pattern in the results of the elections showed that the elections were not fixed or manipulated. There were the usual accusations of foul play from both the Government party and the opposition and some of these went to the courts. The courts also did not show special favour for the Government party through their decision. There was no proven case of Government manipulation or hanky-panky in any of the cases.

10. All indicators point to reasonably fair conduct of the elections by the Election Commission. The Government could not rig or influence the EC.

11. Compare this with the advanced democracies and it would be very clear that the results are quite similar to them. The margins are never extreme one way or another.

12. It is absolutely certain that in the 13th General Election the opposition would win a fair number of seats in the State and Federal elections. Almost certainly Kelantan would go to PAS. There would be great difficulty for BN to win back the States it had lost.

13. So why the demonstrations and the demands for the elections to be clean and fair? Well should the opposition lose in the States or at the Federal levels, then one can safely assume that the opposition will claim that the Government had not conducted the elections fairly, that the Government cheated.

14. There would then be more demonstrations, perhaps bigger and more violent. Demands would be made for new elections to be held, or for the Election Commission to be disbanded and a new Commission set up.

15. Seeing how repeated anti-Government demonstrations have brought down Governments in the Arab countries, Nik Aziz of PAS now declares that over-throwing the Government through demonstration is ‘halal’. Obviously PAS is already contemplating Bersih-type violent demonstrations as a way of seizing power if it loses the 13th General Elections. The country will then suffer from violent demonstrations frequently. This will affect business and growth. Already Nik Aziz considers the present Government as oppressive and dictatorial and it is right to overthrow it.

16. The attention of the world would be sought and the Western Press would be co-opted to paint as black a picture as possible of the people’s opposition to the democratically elected Government. The support of foreign Governments and NGOs would come in as we see in the Arab countries. Their agenda would be different but they would see opportunities for pushing their regime change, for putting their candidate in power as Prime Minister.

17. This possibility is not far-fetched. The average Malaysian always think what happens in other countries will not happen here. But the Bersih 3 demonstration shows it can happen here. We know that almost every demonstration in Malaysia has been organised by Anwar. Now he is teaming up with Nik Aziz. Both see much to be gained by seizing power through unconstitutional means.

18. And when they are in power we can kiss goodbye to peace, stability and economic growth in this beloved country.

    Salam Tun,

May i respond to Zulkiflee please.

    on LGBT.

    1. Yes, i understand what you say, why you say what you say and where you opinion comes from. I understand too that it is not possible to change your opinion, i am merely expressing mine.

    2. I think it is not possible to reconcile our differences, i only ask that we treat LGBT as humans, if you can find it in your heart to let them live, please do so, otherwise, they will need to find some other way to live, some way to protect their own lives and livelihood.

    3. I think it is sad, that we view queer and strange people that way. Maybe my opinion has no basis, no quotations, no references, and hence seem arbitrary.

    4. I am however a poor man although a little bit lucky as i had education. I rely a lot on my good conscience and good will to survive, and so my opinions come from that, not any divine source, i admit.

    5. Being different myself, a “social misfit” simply because my opinions are different from conventional wisdom, i can relate well to how these LGBT people must feel when discriminated against.

    6. And so if you can allow my opinion, then i presume you support democracy and liberty. If not, well then you will not be able to accept an opinion other than your own, and if that is the case que sera sera. We have to part separate ways.

    7. Regardless, i still support DS Anwar’s position on LGBT and many other issues ( although not all ), i will support what DS Anuar stand for, although i admit it is difficult for me to understand politics. But that is simply because i am no politician and can be duped by almost any politician anytime.

    8. But i know that my heart do not lie, as my life depends on its proper functioning. It is as simple as that.

    Thank You Tun

    Salam Tun,

    “Assallammualaikum Tun, it’s me again;
    1. saya pernah membaca kajian seorang penyelidik yang merumuskan bahawa;
    – orang2 cina di China dahulu kala menganggap diri mereka sempurna dan orang2 bukan cina sebagai ‘barbarian’, hantu atau setan.
    – terdapat peniaga melayu di canton pada abad ke 8, pun dilabel sebagai barbarian, setan atau hantu
    2. di singapura pula, orang melayu dianggap bangsa ‘bermasalah’ seperti orang puteh melihat negro – ini bukan pandangan rakyat saja, tetapi semua PM nya juga
    3. ada satu kajian di malaysia di mana lebih daripada 60% orang cina menganggap melayu sebagai ‘pemalas’
    4. sekarang, polis dianggap rasuah, kejam – polis bangsa melayu, maka bangsa melayu rasuah dan kejam
    5. sekarang, kakitangan kerajaan dianggap tidak cekap, pemalas – kakitangan kerajaan melayu, maka bangsa melayu bangsa tidak cekap, pemalas…
Itulah kenapa mereka layak digelar setan/iblis.

Dalam agama Islam, kita disuruh mengambil iktibar – malangnya nasib orang Islam ditindas, orang melayu di singapura ditindas, kita tidak pernah mahu ambil iktibar.

Terima kasih Tun kerana tidak henti2 mengangkat martabat melayu.”

Saya ingin nak tambah. Asik2 cakap orang putih walau pun broken sana sini.

Assallammualaikum YAB Tun and fellow bloggers,
    6. nik ajiz hanya mahu gaji MB tapi buat kerja macam ustaz saja

    Good evening,
All demostrations all over the world be it pro or anti establishment will most likely end on a sour/violent note.
This is to be expected of the recent BERSIH demo.
If I recalled correctly, the organisers told everyone that they have 6000 trained security personnel to monitor the demo and to curb any violence that may happen. Why then did the authorities NOT call their bluff and ALLOW the demo to go on.
If you want to have your cake and eat it too then it’s only natural and practical that you take responsibilty if you suffer stomach cramps later.
This is foreseeable in the coming BERSIH 4.0 in the near future.
Allow them the freedom to gather in Dataran or anywhere they want to but they and only they must and will be held responsible for the consequences of it going out of hand.
Afterall they were and are going to blame the police for any violence that will emerge from the gathering.
Sometimes in life we need to do the unorthodox and the unthinkable just to drive the message home.
Nothing is forever in our life so live it to the best/honest way possible and hopefully we will die of old age and not through bad government of bad opposition.
As I see it both sides are to blame because both sides is NOT BERSIH at all.
Thank you and have a productive life.

    Assalamu Alaikum Tun,

  8. donplaypuks May 10,2012 2:17 AM

    Dear Amin Tan

Where have you been sleeping these last 5 years?

Everything I stated can be verified not only from articles and reports in the MSM, but also from pro-UMNO bloggers’ postings.

That Najib twice denied he met Saiful has been reported and documented just about everywhere. He later retracted his statements and then claimed he meet Saiful regarding a scholarship. That’s not exactly what Saiful testified under oath on the stand in court!

It has also been recorded in court proceedings that the person who was convicted of murdering Altantuya, also confessed he was offered $100,000 to kill her. If the Government has done nothing to identify and bring to trial that person, who should we blame, but the PM of the country. Why has he not directed the IGP to investigate? Do remember the contract for 2 submarines were negotiated, and suspect “commission” of $540 million apid to Razak Baginda’s Perimekar S/B, when Najib was Defence Minister

As for suspect contracts, again this is all over the net and MSM. Many have questioned several direct negotiation awarded by the PM’s Dept. These examples were all reported in the MSM and on-line news portals like MI, Mkini and MChronicle.e.g. :

    1. $7.3 billion Banting-Taiping 60-year toll highway contract which was originally $3.5 billion. Why 60 years (unheard of anywhere) and cost of $23 million per km for a govt subsidised contract?
    2. $6 billion patrol boat contract escalating to $9 billion.
    3. $7.5 billion armoured patrol tanks whuch was sub-contracted to a Turkish party doe $1.5 billion. Why was the contract reported at $7.5 billion?

Wake up please to what’s actually been happening in this country so you can cast your vote for the right party. Don’t be like the ‘katak dibawah tempurung!’

    Salam Tun,

[[3. On LGBT, they are people seeking acceptance in a very hostile, religiously biased environment]]

Tun..human must abide by certain standards..laws,rule and regulation. If not, they are simply beasts in human form..

[[Some people do not accept them as people and some use religion to justify their non-acceptance]]

Coming back to the bone of contention…From which perspective of view point?

[[4. Some people believe holy books are absolute, that it comes from God, and therefore God cannot be wrong, and so LGBT must be punished]]

What is a definition of holy books?
    What is God?
Which society point of view does not accept LGBT?
Why put blanket approval and disapproval from your kind of view?

[[ And so they freely condemn LGBT to hell, having had a license from religion to do so]]

    Life is all about belief.
You are in the opinion that you can and freely condemn the religious believing people..What are you? Atheist?

This is indeed sad but true. Can someone tell them their religion is wrong about LGBT ?
    Who?
    What religion?
And your belief is surpassing other religion?

[[5. I honestly see no reason for them to harass or attack the LGBT community, except for their own cheap thrill]]

And what measures were used in your interpretation?
    Medical?
    Socio-path?
    Psycho-path?

[[But i ask these people to consider, should God have made them LGBT, i.e. if they were on the receiving end of the discrimination]]

Life is about belief and perfomance of the belief.
We made our bed.We lie on it.

[[ would they still agree with the holy books, and happily volunteer their entire life being “condemned” and consider themselves deserving such treatment ?
I think not. Sometimes God is wrong]]
Since you are atheist please says this thing…
    In my opinion..
Since you are the majority of the mainstreamer..
my voice can be construed as

    THE LONE DANGER…

    Dear Tun,

When I saw the news on the Bersih 3.0, I was upset, angry and disappointed. How could the Malays especially so gullible? How could Anwar Ibrahim and Nik Aziz be so evil and yet call themselves Muslims? Why should n’t Ambiga and the gang be cited for contempt of court? How I wish that Ambiga be thrown into the prison where the hardcore criminals are placed. As to Bar Council, I fail to see why and how could the so called intelligent people elect such narrow minded and selfish persons to be their leaders. Oh but then, they’r not intelligent, merely hardworking desperately seeking attention and manipulating to legalise crime. And I’m not talking only about criminal case. But most of the time I was thinking, what would Tun Mahathir do in this situation? But of course, Tun would have been able to prevent Bersih in the first place. I concur with one of our readers here that the government should have a massive publicity campaign to evoke the silent supporters of the government. Somehow, I think demonstrations are for those who are rich and has nothing better to do and for trouble makers. I may be bias since I don’t bother to read Harakah or Malaysian Insider because I think they are full of lies. Well, my conversations with PAS and DAP are enough to make me feel sick. My sympathy goes to the police and their family. May be, well may be, there could be police brutalities towards the public on that day but what do you expect when you deal with trouble makers? Pamper them like Bersih 2.0? That’s why they came out with Bersih 3.0. I still think it is unfair for us taxpayers to pay for RM25.00 per person on Bersih 2.0. Free food and drink, “layanan mesra” for the ‘ demonstraters’ will not change them. To the police, yes there are corrupted ones, but not all. But no one can deny that one feel a lot safer when there are police making their rounds in their housing area. And I totally agree with Tun, if our election is so dirty, how could BN lost in FIVE states?

Have a good day, Tun. Semoga Allah panjangkan umur Tun berdua. Kami rakyat Malaysia masih memerlukan Tun.

    Assalamu’alaikum Tun,

    penjarakan mereka bertiga.

    terimakasih Tun

    Assalamualaikum,
You are right, there is no real objective of the BERSIH except for instigating riot and chaos in Malaysia due to the fact that the opposition is afraid that they are going to lose badly in the upcoming election. The sad thing is, it is done by the leaders and not the people. Usually we will see that people due to the dissatisfaction with a government policy or conduct will rally themselves to perform such assembly as the BERSIH did. Some men just wants to see the world burns.

    Good morning YAB,

    35. I was in Penang when I wrote the comment on Joshua and the likes.

    36. To the acting PM, he needs votes to make his transformation plan a reality.

    37. Penang is in terrible shape needs to be rescued too by Federal Government.

    38. It’s time to let DS Najib be the captain BN.

    39. He should call his card for GE13th when the time is right for him to win as the elected PM to keep Malaysia going.

    40. I am not a gossiper who likes to gossip other people issues to make myself feel great, hence, I won’t be affected by those people who badmouth their own members.

That’s all for this topic, YAB.

    BERSIH 3.0

    Salam sejahtera Yg Bhg Tun.

    Salam Tun,

    1. On matter of politics, democracy is too large to be just a single party. I even hear UMNO people say they are democratic.
So i think there is room for a few more political parties. Maybe a nationalist party. Maybe also a humanitarian party.

    3. On LGBT, they are people seeking acceptance in a very hostile, religiously biased environment. Some people do not accept them as people and some use religion to justify their non-acceptance.

    4. Some people believe holy books are absolute, that it comes from God, and therefore God cannot be wrong, and so LGBT must be punished. And so they freely condemn LGBT to hell, having had a license from religion to do so. This is indeed sad but true. Can someone tell them their religion is wrong about LGBT ?

    5. I honestly see no reason for them to harass or attack the LGBT community, except for their own cheap thrill. But i ask these people to consider, should God have made them LGBT, i.e. if they were on the receiving end of the discrimination, would they still agree with the holy books, and happily volunteer their entire life being “condemned” and consider themselves deserving such treatment ?
I think not. Sometimes God is wrong.

    6. D.S. Anuar Ibrahim gave the best answer for LGBT i have heard so far in Malaysia, even better than your answer, sorry Tun. He said something to the effect of …”the government does not encourage LGBT, but we should not punish people just because they are as such.” This is the wise and safe position, but of course never shown in the mainstream media

    7. With our new press and publications act, i hope the mainsteam media can now pick these gems and do their job professionally for the benefit of us rakyat, instead of just for benefit of their political and budget masters. It’s about time people work with principle, not with fear of salary cut or punishment.

    9. In the mean time, i have no choice but to read both main stream and longkang version of news to be able to discern who is telling what and most importantly, why they say what they say.

    10. As far as economy, my opinion the government has not done anything substantially good to enable us to ride through the upcoming and eventual storm coming, it’s just too slow too little, the economic typhoon will sweep away even our tycoons.

    11. However, i feel we cannot blame the government, for i see they have done a tremendously good job ad hard work just keeping the vehicles running. Only that the brewing storm i fear is of biblical proportions, and so i feel i need to give the tsunami warning.

    Thank You Tun

    Salam Tun,

    18. And when they are in power we can kiss goodbye to peace, stability and economic growth in this beloved country.

Very true, Tun. One believes his wife and thinks he’s God’s gift to mankind while the other thinks he’s Islam’s Pope. Both are despicable. I think both can best be described by a few choice words — unfortunately they’re all expletives and cannot be mentioned here although I think Nik Abdul Aziz won’t mind because he once said that ‘Allah pun mencarut.’

PAS’s Pope has embraced the sodomite [in Anwar’s appeal, according to the Federal Court sodomy did take place, remember] with open arms and has even sponsored his followers to support a sponsor of Bersih 3 who in turn supports LGBT. Well done Your Holiness.

Those fools in PAS — I’m sorry but that’s the only way to describe them because they’re still in the party despite being told that for more than 50 years they were not actually fighting for a ‘Negara Islam’ but for a ‘Negara Kebajikan’; PAS identifying with Islam was just a branding exercise — ought to send a message and ‘bersih’ their party leadership up by sacrificing their ‘capal’ at the next ceramah. And grab the ‘peti sedekah’ while they’re at it. I suggest they start with Abdul Hadi Awang for still talking about ‘kedaulatan Islam’ and the Deen when his party never stood for Islam and he should be talking about ‘kebajikan’ instead. You know, the ‘kebajikan’ that’s found in Kelantan: high illiteracy rates; high divorce rates; high poverty rates relative to the rest of the country. Kelantan is such a good example of a state with ‘kebajikan’ that Kelantanese have left the state in droves. But then they’re fools, those PAS people.

I sincerely hope [albeit a forlorn one] that BN wins in Kelantan and put Tok Pa in charge of the state. Kelantanese deserve much better than a clueless hypocrite like Nik Abdul Aziz as MB.

As for Ambiga and who’s behind Bersih, here’s a very interesting article by Nile Bowie. Like they say, just follow the money trail.

    Salam Tun,

    1. I think everyone wants UMNO ( by default ) to care for the Malays, but not rule the country. Only UMNO people do not understand this, they feel it is their “right” to rule.

    2. I think my Chinese and Indians friends are anxious to settle this “who should rule” issue so that we can go on with nation building and jalan2 cari makan.

    3. Corruption has become a way of life for some, or in other words their religion, although JPN prints all sorts of names for religion on ICs. Nobody can say anything and even if we speak up nobody not especially those on the take will listen to them. The government says if we are forced to give bribe we can complain to the new body setup by the govt. I almost fell off my chair reading this news in the mainstream newspaper.

    4. I think the government, if they want to drastically reduce and subsequently eliminate corruption, they need to study properly why it occurs. Penalties and enforcement is both difficult and expensive. It is much better if people are presented with many opportunities to make money, and so have no need for and do not support corruption.

    5. This requires understanding just what corruption is, especially systematic corruption. If people understand and believe that it is bad, it is likely they do not want to do it.

    6. As of now, it is the trend, the fashion, the way of life for many. Bersih 3.0 reaffirms the belief of some that non-Malays want to take the lead in ruling the country, making some to expand their income faster, “sebelum habis peluang”.

    7. I think this harvesting season will not last forever, a new season will appear when the fashion will be to become entrepreneurs. By that time our future will be better, my crystal ball says the problem then will be religion.

    8. Religion is a problem, because so many people are not aware of it, they only know Islam. Those who are new into Islam ( the born-again muslims or reverts as they prefer to call themselves ) are ever so excited with their new found understanding of Islam that they become preachers. This, what i call the “hallelujah effect” is sometimes so pronounced that they assume the human they talk to have absolutely no knowledge of religion and Islam i.e. they began talking in a condescending manner, which does not make them look good and certainly not so pious.

    9. The atheists and agnostics people of Malaysia will witness this around them, so it is time to bury deeper inside our respective caves, while the storm sweeps. It is better to focus on economy and goodwill i think. The religious people will have the burden of response and leadership. I do not see any clear religious leadership. In a way, that is good i think.

    10. Bersih 3.0 is a success, there will perhaps be a Bersih 4.0. In moving towards an advanced nation, we need this kind of peaceful protests and freedom of expression. The government is not used to it, and therefore reacts to every protest.

    11. If the people who are against Bersih, and the government “of the people, by the people, for the people” are against Bersih, they should have just ignored it completely. But i guess the government knows they cannot ignore the voice of Bangsa Malaysia.

    Thank You Tun

    hi everyone,

I have few question below regarding bersih 3:-

    a) for bersih 3, why government donot open dataran merdeka for them – bersih 3? bersih 2 already showed how strong Malaysian power and be sure goverment know this bersih 3 will be more stronger because include STOP LYNAS’s friends.

    b) Anything wrong if Malaysian want to impress their thinking with the peace way?

    c) is that Amiga doing the wrong thing if she really fight for the fair election?

    d) i dont know the real purpose of the leader for different party politics. But the security from PAS in the bersih really doing their best, they not fight with police or goverment, they really take care and help OKY ppl and jaga the decipline.

I dont side any party here but i agree that fair election is important for a country. In chinese ” everybody have a ruler in their heart”.

    Askm Tun & fellow blogers.

Most people tend to forget that Malaysia is a UNIQUE country in the world with its multi-racials, multi-religions and multi-cultural population, having enjoy prosperity, peace & harmony since independence. Can anybody dispute it by naming one country that resemble Malaysia?

As such, a UNIQUE country will therefore have UNIQUE problems that therefore require UNIQUE solution that should be developed based on “thinking outside the box” concept in order to maintain that UNIQUE Malaysian national characteristics. There shouldn’t be a cut & paste solution as it will not work. ( how Tun handled the Asian financial crisis is a typical example that nobody can now said that it was a bad decision )

BERSIH campaign is typically based on desperation of political pariahs by creating perception as how the country should ideally be governed but to be based on what? Democracy is such nice word but can it be applied to all countries? NO is clear answer. Ask the general Iraqis people of their current views on pre- and pro- Sadaam era. It doesn’t mean that Sadaam is a good person but he was a strong leader required to manage and govern the 3 major communities, the Sunni, the syiah and the Kurds to live together as Iraqis – progressive, peaceful and strong nation with highly educated population. What is happening now to Iraq? So are Libya, Sudan, Syria etc. Can anybody open their eyes and identify what IS the common factor to these tragic events?

If I say USA is already a bankcrupt country… in fact it is… but nobody will accept it . USA status have ONLY been based on strong people perception ( thus supporting it ) that they have created through the political, economic and military power based and not to exclude major media including the movies which they control. As Bush Jr have finally said his infamous phrase ” Either you are with us or with them”. They will use all kind of “dirty” tricks, threat, & cover-up as to ensure that the status quo will be forever maintained….”submit/bow to US” if you want to be safe. They have highjacked organisations such UN, World Bank and other International organisation to paint a good feature of USA. Not to worry, the truth will finally be revealed, it is only a matter of how and when.

So I wish to call all my Malaysian country-men.. be grateful for what we have now ( peace, harmony & prosperity ) and move forward based on our own way and NOT what dictated by others using all kinds of beautifully crafted concept by HUMAN ( yes HUMAN ) of idealism such as democracy, human rights, environment, freedom of speech & expression, personal freedom etc,

The best CHOICE for us should and will be based on Allah SWT teaching & guidance based on Quran & Hadith. Unfortunately, some of our influencial Ulama’s, being human, seem to easily fall to the whisper of IBLIS that will use all the tricks available to influence the human to follow them to HELL. Be aware that no human can defeat the influence of Iblis/Setan without the protection of Allah SWT ( To a certain extend, Iran may have been right to label USA as the Great Setan ). So let us all pray for Allah SWT’s protection. We have no other choice if we wish to have a good life in this world and world after.. of course this will only apply to the believers.

    Dear So-Called Tun,
That’s the behavior of of you and your supporters. Still, as defensive as ever. In other words, stubborn. STUBBORN.
Always think that BN will never do wrong. Who ever go different than BN, that’s call bad. If BERSIH attended by 1000 or 5000ppl, then we call them pathetic. But now the people who attend is more than 200k! ARE YOU ALL BLIND?! Even those from Singapore, Penang, Perlis purposely went to KL to join BERSIH. Reason? Of cos to tell u all EC and BN that u all are fkin DIRTY! And U all are corrupted to the core! 42k or wrong registration in EC u consider as clean? Please la old man.
If you are the one who do the ruling now, I bet the ppl will not be 200k, it will double up the ppl. As ever, BN, UNMO, corrupted and rotten till the core.

  29. mubarakchan May 7,2012 5:38 PM

    Tun

I am aghast and surprised that the normally peace-loving and law-abiding citizens are now taking to the street demonstrations to express whatever their wish in physical terms and not through the due process of the laws. The Bersih-bersih demonstrations are a new phenomenon in this country. We have had the Penang riots of 1967 and the Kuala Lumpur riots of 1969. In the former, the surprise imposition of tax on the populace turned the stakeholders into rioters. Whilst the incidents of 1969 were an amalgam of the protests (instigated by outsiders) arising from an accidental shooting by the police and the dissatisfaction of the graduates who returned from overseas which arose from the apparent unchanged status quo of the still extant colonial economy with the British controlling 70% of the best assets and the towkays 20% of the second best. The socio-economic rule by the Currency Board ! Something had to break.

The Bersih-bersih have their origins as far back as 1998 when for the very first time a street demonstration was organised for a specific purpose. With the declining economy beginning from 2003 ( the goodies did not flow down to the proletariat at the bottom ) and the perceived financial mismanagement of the administration which was compounded by other scandals and spread far and wide through the Web, it was only a matter of time before the manifestations of the unhappiness of some of the citizens by taking to the streets.

However, the un-Malaysian feature of these demonstrations goes against the grain of the Malaysian Chinese who generally are peace-loving and law-abiding citizens. To them, it is paramount to cause no trouble so that they go about their lives earning their daily bowl of rice for their families. And their behaviour is not much different from that of the other Chinese who have settled down in other lands for centuries. I have lived amongst the mainstream Malaysian Chinese my whole life and the majority are apolitical but desire law and order so that they can have peace and prosperity like every one else. I have an inkling of the similar desires of their other communities too.

The Malaysian Chinese understand very well that it is paramount for the political leadership of any party to retire with empty sleeves ! This has not been completely proven in parties representing them. And after 55 years of Merdeka, these parties should now look askance upon themselves that it is time to practice realpolitik to represent their constituents wholeheartedly.

Common issues like schools, the Mandarin language, jobs, promotions, scholarships, security etc are still with the Malaysian Chinese today. Where are you MCA ? People do now speak-out openly on the Web.

There is no raison d’etre for a Malaysian Chinese to march and demonstrate in Bersih-bersih if he or she had found their roots of their wherewithal of their existence. Their roots are what made them ticked and bound them to their families – their attitudes towards one another and their fellow citizens. They should think more deeply whether it is worthwhile to be one of the digits out of the thousands of digits running around in the streets, taunting the police in whatever manner.

Have they got the self-esteem to be a Malaysian Chinese loyal only to the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and the Nation ?

There are many questions to be asked by the Malaysian Chinese themselves. And they should be proud of the fact that their forebears and they themselves have contributed much in this beloved land. They did not strive alone from the very beginning of time centuries ago but together with others of the land. Without the humanity and multi-culturalism of the royal Sultans of yore and the successive Governments since Merdeka, where would be all of us Malaysian Chinese ? The Malaysian Chinese must remember come what may that we are the best treated in the world, even better than Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and the rest of the World. Those who disagree would probably had not lived in these countries !

I seek the Malaysian Chinese to think deep and think seriously that any move to disrupt the law and order of a country must have sinister motives which are usually difficult to comprehend. But sooner or later, through time, the real motives reveal themselves and then it will be too late. This was what happened to Germany between 1931 – 1934. This period was the rise of Hitler and the Brownshirts. The Germans were silent and compliant. The rest was history and the American soldiers are still in Germany since the end of the War in Europe in May 1945 !

I call out to the Malaysian Chinese who have our country at heart and loyal to the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and the Nation to search their hearts and minds carefully in their great ancient cultural tradition in history to abide by the laws of the land not only in their own interest but also concomitant with that of their fellow citizens.

It takes two to tango !

  30. ROZALI BIN AYED May 7,2012 5:37 PM

  33. Praxis May 7,2012 11:36 AM

Your argument that they won five seats is most powerful so far. but this doesn’t seem to register on minds looking for more excitement.

While your privatisation of government depts during your tenure did not intrude into the public provision of essential sevrices, this cannot be said of the present regime which has no such sensitivities.

Such public dissatisfaction can be channelled into calls for regime change which have a dynamic of its own unwittingly.

What legitimacy does party politics have when one has to vote for unsavoury characters?

Should we who were enamoured by your statesmanship be not free to vote according to the merits of the candidates?

    BERSIH 3.0

    Salam hormat Yg Bhg Tun,

Wassalam.

    Assallammualaikum Tun, it’s me again;
    1. saya pernah membaca kajian seorang penyelidik yang merumuskan bahawa;
    – orang2 cina di China dahulu kala menganggap diri mereka sempurna dan orang2 bukan cina sebagai ‘barbarian’, hantu atau setan.
    – terdapat peniaga melayu di canton pada abad ke 8, pun dilabel sebagai barbarian, setan atau hantu
    2. di singapura pula, orang melayu dianggap bangsa ‘bermasalah’ seperti orang puteh melihat negro – ini bukan pandangan rakyat saja, tetapi semua PM nya juga
    3. ada satu kajian di malaysia di mana lebih daripada 60% orang cina menganggap melayu sebagai ‘pemalas’
    4. sekarang, polis dianggap rasuah, kejam – polis bangsa melayu, maka bangsa melayu rasuah dan kejam
    5. sekarang, kakitangan kerajaan dianggap tidak cekap, pemalas – kakitangan kerajaan melayu, maka bangsa melayu bangsa tidak cekap, pemalas…
Itulah kenapa mereka layak digelar setan/iblis.

Dalam agama Islam, kita disuruh mengambil iktibar – malangnya nasib orang Islam ditindas, orang melayu di singapura ditindas, kita tidak pernah mahu ambil iktibar.

Terima kasih Tun kerana tidak henti2 mengangkat martabat melayu.

Assallammualaikum YAB Tun and fellow bloggers,
    6. nik ajiz hanya mahu gaji MB tapi buat kerja macam ustaz saja

    Asmkm YBhg Tun

Do we need Bersih or the like? In the past how do manage all reforms? TAR, TunAR, THO, TMM (and TAB) all did some forms of transformation without anyone in the opposition initiate them to do it. They did it out of sincerity as Guardian of Trust.

We can see that DSNTR is doing that too with so much diligence.

Now, we have many Guardian of Opportunity who created troubles because of greed, lust for power, love of anarchy and i-die-u-die attitude.

Tun, since you left, we are only educating those in schools, colleges and universities (SCU) but we neglected educating those at home, those politicians, kampong people, bandar people, and those not in SCU. Education is a continuous process. We must have a program. For example, during your time, you educate Chin Peng to believe that guerilla fight is wrong for Msia that lead him to sign a treaty. Chin Peng never say communism is wrong for Msia. Another example: you educate MIC DSSV and MCA, and the rest to respect each other by engaging them and reminding them to remain Guardian of Trust as agreed in the aftermath leading to Independence.

That is why, we can see communism is sill an option for a group of people, like Ambiga, Anwar, Guan Eng, DSNA, many DAP stalwarts, PAS fanatics and rest of others. For example, look at some countries like NKorea, in communism we get lots of freebies from the state like education, milk, rice etc and in return, we must work for the country without any protest on wages as the government set what to pay. Overall, there is no rich or poor issue, only the ruling elite can be rich as it owns all cyber goods. May be Spore is the nearest example of selective communism. This is what the Guardian of Opportunity is trying hard to achieve for Msia.

Guardian of Trust is like our parents, if the parents don’t start teaching the kids now, we will even regret our own future. As parents, we are given opportunity to choose coercive or persuasive, so long as we understand the limit of both within a given time and situational needs, and the kids are made to understand that too. Failing which, we will live with regrets.

As spoken by the immortal lyrics:

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin’ how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn’t matter who’s wrong or right
    Just beat it, beat it
Beat it, beat it, beat it

Tun, u r above the rest though u r not immortal, but there are more out there like u, those who read and understand sincerity. Those, who want to reach out and make others understand sincerity.

  38. chamb May 6,2012 4:07 PM

    Dear Tun,

If I may express my views frankly.

It is a fact that there is a lopsidedness in the election process in this country. Much of it relates to campaigning and the use of Government funds by the incumbent government. BUT- Fraud on the scale alleged- is untrue.

Ambiga and her sponsors have tried to work a web of false hood by creating a perception that there is fraud. In the absence of evidence, they brought a mob into KL If you challenge these allegations, the answer will be – “Then why are people on the streets.”. It is strange however, that when allegations are made against DSAI, even forensic evidence will not suffice. Ask DSAI or Azizah where he was during the sex video- they will say that they don’t have to respond to unproven allegations, ask DSAI for the

But let us go deeper into this. It is clear that this whole movement has massive support from the liberal left, the evangelical movement and the Chinese. They see this as a golden opportunity to end Malay soveriginity. Malay votes have never been split so badly. The moment could not be more encouraging! I am no Malay. But I have lived under what is basically an even handed rule of Malay leaders. They gave us citizenship (which they could have refused) and allowed us to rise in this nation amidst affirmative action programs that benefited the Malays even if we complaint about the tilt in their favour.

I am confident that no Chinese would do that- look at Chinese companies and how people are promoted and recruited. They talk of a non-Malay PM- will there be a non-Chinese CEO of Genting, YTL, Berjaya….?

What these groups have done is to whip up a carnival like siesta with one these- to preach hate against the government. The real target is to end Malay soverignity. The Trojan Horse that is being used for this purpose is – unproven election fraud.

Tun- it is noteworthy, that there are too many Malays who having benefited from a western education, largely through sponsorships and have now come home with trendy friends from the West either in person or via Facebook. They seem to fashionably think that by not intervening in the economy, we will enter utopia. They do not understand the inherent cronyism and duplicity with which most Malaysian Chinese operate. Consider this, they have not issues doing business with China, not even DAP. Would any of them every call upon the Government of China to have free elections, would any of them condemn the violence against Tibet, or the murder of over 2000 people in Tianamen Square. No – Business runs as usual. They talk of meritocracy, but when PNB acquired SP Setia fair and square on the open market, the complaint was that PNB should not have done that!! They cry of bailouts- but none were heard when the Government stepped in to bail out co-ops in 1987 which collapsed under Chinese fraud, none when the Selangor Government bailed out a Company of a leading Tan Sri….. meritocracy??

We must all realize that Bersih crude attempt to demonize the election process and to create a state of affairs in the heart of KL with a hope that it will bring down the government.

What then? DAP and their Chinese allies in PKR will have a dominant voice in the new coalition. With it they will forge a nation riddled with hidden Chinese monopolies. In the same way that they have used their networks to monopolize procurement at inflated rates in Companies, the packbacks to key personnel etc. Why are the Malays so blind to think that they can achieve via PKR and DAP what they cannot via UMNO??

Let us all look back on the Arab Spring. There is only one leader in this nation who is obsessed with importing foreign unrest into our country- DSAI. In 1998 he tried to import Indonesian REFOMASI and now the Arab Spring. To all Malaysians … remember how the foreign media made this all out to be such a “beautiful” event… a moment as beautiful as “spring” itself. Remember how they praised the “wise” young leaders who “reclaimed” their nation. Now when Bersih leaders tell us … “You have waited long enough…. Go and claim your nationhood etc”. Ask yourself are you prepared to put your lives and your children’s lives on hold for years until the unrest settles and utopia arrives. Egypt is waiting from last year….. how long will you wait.

  41. Simple Mind May 6,2012 10:52 AM

    Asalam’kum Tun,

It seems obvious that the opposition is an Opportunist. They will ride on any isssues that is anti-government and therefore hopes to garner more support from the “ignorant” public (those that just follow the crowd blindly). I saw the program “Soal Jawab” (I think this is the name of the program) on Thursday night at 11.00p.m. where Dato Kalimanathan and Khairy (who were in the PSC panel) were the guest speakers on the topic of PSC on election reforms. From what gather from the speakers is that most of the issues have been ironed out, except for a few which is ongoing.
Question: If this is true what didn’t the government present their views for the outcome of the PSC meeting?
I think this will alleviate the many fears and misconception by the public of the Election commission and therefore the government. If we did something right, we should inform the public because now the public is thinking that the government is at fault and trying to portray that the election is rigged.

If I can remember correctly, you mentioned this before, the government should answer all the queries post by the people quickly, not after something has happened (it may be too late by then) especially when the topic is a hot issue. If the government is slow in reacting (maybe the government might not have an answer at that time) the government will be seen as lacking credibility. At this critical time, fast acting and swift response to critical issues is vital in proving that the leadership is running the government efficiently.

    Salam Tun dan keluarga.

  43. Bothman May 6,2012 3:45 AM

    Askm Tun & friends bloggers.

I believe that BERSIH 3 is just part series of the propoganda program by the opposition to as much as to discredit the government with lies and focus to highlight as much negativity in any government action/policy. The script has already been prepared now by the opposition to explain the eventual result of the next election. Therefore their activites are or will be conducted to ensure that “head – their win, tail – government’s loss and street demonstrations is the top of the list to pressure the government.
Whatever it is, it can be concluded that if opposition wins, it is not based on their strength but the weakness of UMNO/BN, enherited from the previous. As it is, unless the UMNO/BN materialise the undergoing transformation, they may suffer another setback during the next general election.

To me politic is a dirty game and never is clean as demanded by the opposition. But there is no other better alternative in making choice for the setting up government. We have to choose and the choice will be for the BETTER of the evils. And that is politics.

May Allah protect us from evils and their agents.

  44. menujuhadapan May 6,2012 12:20 AM

    Dear Tun Dr M,

I’m not a supporter for BN or Pakatan. I only support those who make good policies for the people and for the nation. One of the Bersih 3.0 demand is to have a fair election. One area which I would like to hear from Tun is why the electoral population for many areas are not balanced? There is a tendency for Pakatan controlled Parliament/ADUN seats to have big voter population while BN controlled seats have many seats which have smaller voter population. Secondly, to avoid speculation from the public that postal votes are not transparent, why can’t we set voting for the army and etc on the same day with election day with observers from both BN/Pakatan stationed there. The public is very smart now. They read the mainstream newspaper and those online news from Malaysia Today, Malaysiakini and etc. The emergence of youtube and many electronic recording media means that there is no point for politicians to twist facts of an event. They will know the truth sooner or later. Malaysia belongs to Rakyat! not BN and not Pakatan. GE13 must be fair and transparent for us to refocus back onto nation development. If given a choice, i would like to see smart and clean leaders from both BN & Pakatan to be part of the cabinet to lead the nation to success.

  45. muz889 May 5,2012 10:47 PM

    greetings dear Tun

    1. i completely disagree with your writings this time..you claimed that ” the demonstration is no doubt the biggest and the most violent in the series” but did you really know who is actually responsible for this violent act ?…it is the police (under the instruction of the federal government of course) who made the trouble by brutally beating and arresting the demonstrators without appropriate reason…recently, there are some findings reveal that quite number of this demonstrators are among the police who imposed as protestors but they were actually carrying a task to create chaos so that the police force could make their move…

    2. you have presented you fact that our electoral system is clean thus there is no need for bersih..now let me present mine, PSC minority report contain certain information regarding the fraud in our electoral roll…there ate 42 000 voters whose their identity are not verified by the NRD..EC had spent 3 months time to find this 42 000 names as some them might be malaysian and still alive..it turns out that, 1248 were found and only half of them are alive which mean the other half are dead and could be remove..but what about remaining 41000?..how much time will they need to find the other 41000?.. when the opposition voice out their intention to discuss this report in parliament, the speaker rejected it on the based that there is no precedent.. the opposition later come up with precedent that such report had been discuss in the parliment of a democratic country such as new zealand, britain, australia and jamaica but yet the speaker rejected it..this time he has no excuse since that the precedent he asked for were already given by the opposition

    2. same report says that they find 65 000 foreigners were include in ER and 3 million cases of voters who vote in different consistency than they were supposed to….under the regulation 13 (if i not mistaken) the EC were given a power to walk house to house to find out this doubtful voters or make a notice to inform this this people turn up and register as voters and if they didn’t turn up then the EC are entitle to remove their name from ER but they didn’t use this…worst part is, the EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz and his deputy Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar were later prove as an umno member…where in the world can a member of a ruling party become a chairman of an independent body such as judiciary and EC (unless in authoritarian country like you mentioned above)…isn’t this a fraud dear Tun ?

    3. taking back your point, you said that “Obviously PAS is already contemplating Bersih-type violent demonstrations as a way of seizing power if it loses the 13th General Elections”..that is not true, we know for a fact that the motives of bersih is to demand free and fair election, nothing more..

    4. you also mentioned that “Already Nik Aziz considers the present Government as oppressive and dictatorial and it is right to overthrow it.”..yeah, why not…our electoral system is full of fraud…i don’t have to mention all, i think what i have stated above about the ER is enough to prove that our electoral system is dirty….all this fraud are siding on the government which convince the people that it is the malaysian who are behind this while considering that the top men in the EC is member of the ruling party..

    5. and just so as you know, the uprising of the Egyptian to topple mubarak were made after mubarak won the election…be careful

  46. moon abd karim May 5,2012 6:22 PM

    Assalammualaikum

i completely agree with TUN’S statement about BERSIH 3.
As a wise Malaysian, we should analyse critically and systematically before supporting one party or demonstration.
from my opinion, most demonstrater in BERSIH 3 doesn’t really understand what is the BERSIH main objective. they joined BERSIH only for fun or influenced by their friends. if they understand what BERSIH is, there will be no such violent that happen during the rally. I think, they know BERSIH 3 is also known as a “peace” demonstration.
Most peoples out there debating about BERSIH demonstration has no relation with religion. But, please think carefully Malaysian, the main leader for BERSIH 3 is Datuk Ambiga and Teresa Kok. they have their own controversy issue about main religion in Malaysia,ISLAM.
i think they are so happy when looked at the violent that happen during BERSIH 3 rally that involved Muslims.
I hope all Muslims in Malaysian, especially Malays to think wisely when come to this issue. I understand Malaysia is a democracy country and we can freely give our opinion about our dissatisfaction in politic field or any others field. but, i’m sure we can make ours dissatisfaction heard by using a right channel.
    thank you

    saya sangat sayang tun 🙂

Often, it’s not what the Opposition won, but what more it could have won, if the EC and Govt were fair and straight.

We have the following in M’sia now:
    1. An unelected Prime Minister.
    2. An unelected Mayor of Kuala Lumpur where 10 out of 11 MP’s are from the Opposition, and yet they have no say on how KL is administered!
    3. No Govt or Police action since 2008 on who gave the orders to kill Altantuya despite the person who executed her confessing that he had been offered a $100,000 contract!
    4. Gerrymandering peculiarities like 1 MP for Putrajay with 5,000 voters and 1MP for Seputeh (DAP) with 50,000 voters.
    5. Endemic corruption in govt contracts and no-tender direct-negotiation award system. e.g. $7.3 billion for the Klang-Taiping 60-year (??!!) toll highway that costs $23 million per km (more than double international $/km costs), $9 billion for patrol boats originally said to cost $6 billion, and $7.55 billion for 237 armoured vehicles when DRB HIcom sub-contracted it to Turkey for $1.55 billion and Defence Minister Hamidi claimed he ws unaware of it in Parliament, although he had attended the contract signing in Turkey!! The list is endless,

All these suggest and more, indicates we have a rogue and thieving regime in power that needs to be replaced urgently. Our Govt appears to encourage, protect and condone murderers and fraudsters.

So, do we wait for the PM to take his own sweet time to announce elections, and enable more plundering and looting of our national coffers, or, force the issue by peaceful gatherings which have the full backing of our Constitution and Law?

Bersih and political movements here have nothing to do with the Arab Spring. They are dictated to by the force of necessity and search for justice. What is fatal for BUMNO/BN will not be fatal for the Rakyat. Peace, stability and economic stability will continue whenever and wherever you root out pure, unadultertaed evil.

How can the EC be independent if it’s head is a BUMNO member? If you put Hitler in charge of the Holocaust Inquiry, what do you think the presumption will be as to his neutrality? Hitler will of course claim he can wear different hats and be fair; but, honestly, can justice be seen to be done?

And lastly, you and Najib have all courted PAS at one time or another. Does that mean you were planning disruption, disaster and economic mayhem for Malaysia?

  52. HBT456 May 5,2012 10:32 AM

    Good morning YAB,

    19. What transpired Bersih 1, 2, and 3 to be what they became today before the next general election?

    20. Why DAP, PKR and PAS political parties joined this meaningful event?

    21. It is a “global human rights” that made them turned out to be what they are today globally and nationally in the heart of Malaysia federal capital territory, KL, and it will not stop as time moves on too.

    22. For DAP, PKR and PAS, they just tumpangkan niat baik Bersih co-chairman and committee members to win votes at all cost too at their own money.

    23. Fortunately, no lives were sacrificed that day when people, media, PDRM, Bersih committee members and opposition political parties are mature enough to handle the situation.

    24. If animal rights are safeguard and protected globally and nationally, why can’t LGBT rights?

    25. LGBT are human, bukan binatang, are safeguard and protected globally but despised nationally in the programme of Ministry and BN, don’t we think our Ministry and BN no longer relevant to protect our social fabric at all levels?

    26. If Hukum Hudud is to be agreed by disagreed by Guan Eng (DAP), PAS (Hadi Awang) and Anwar (PKR) only to get votes, they are playing with political fire, but at least they are willing to adapt and learn for the best to stay relevant.

    27. If cowgate and sheepgate are praised because of UMNO and Perkasa want to bodek PM, both these 2 political party and non-political parties are inviting people not to look up at them.

    28. Ada tanah tapi tak ada akal peniagaan, modal, networking and skilled developer and entrepreneurship to maintain the invested capital, apa2 projects pun boleh tutup.

    29. When will general election 13th be held?

    30. After general election 13th, there will be many more as times moves by.

    31. If political parties insist that they are the best of the best, they would be played out by their opponents one day.

    32. Who will be the next USA President?

    33. It will be Mitt Romney because both USA and China complement one another for our better world.

    34. China does not tolerate religion that can raise war fares to kill to stay at the top of the world.

    35. But Muslim countries tolerate war fares to stay at the top of their Islamic world, is UMNO preaching for this at Putrajaya?

    Good day, YAB.

Fair media? Just a bunch of hypocrites. Try read Harakah, Roket and any media that supporting the opposition, try to find any good words on what the goverment do. You won’t as it will surely twisted to negative.
Internationally? Just watch Chanel News Asia and try to find good things about msia. Fat hope but they will air an interview with the opps. CNN? Everybody knows the propaganda.

  55. Hajar May 5,2012 8:54 AM

    Salam YAB & diKasihi Tun,

Nanti kalau kalah bolehlah salahkan BN & SPR. Sama macam Anwar Ibrahim yang sentiasa menyalahkan UMNO/BN di atas masalah moral beliau.

    Terima kasih Tun.

*** Semoga Allah SWT melindungi Tun sekeluarga. ***

  57. DNZ May 5,2012 3:22 AM

    Assalamu’alaikum YABhg Tun,

May Allah swt keep you safe and healthy, Amin !

I am neither a politician nor supporter of any political parties but I am a citizen of this wonderful country.

    Kindly pardon me to say my thoughts freely as follows;

    (1) I read many interesting arguments favouring the Bersih rally, my mind simply could not digest the merits Bersih supporters are fighting for a cleaner and fairer elections by pawning innocent young adults, children and women into street demos? I do not agree to Bersih’s MOTTO !

    (2) Clearly bringing political parties into defending civil rights of citizens (rakyat) by championing and upholding civil liberty in the defence of humanity ought to be suspiciously viewed by anyone who favours peace and harmony for healthy environment living in our beloved country Malaysia that we all hoped our next generations of children can live in harmony and prosperously in a respectable developed nation.

    (3) I’m not skilled to write many things but your article on Bosnia Herzegovinian and the standards applied by the West on the rule of law on humanity clearly shows double standards on the application of law by these so called western civilised societies.

    (4) Nevertheless, the champions for the rule of democracy should question US, European Nations who had always championed and supported the rule of law and yet, not allowing the democracy to judge and punished Libyan leader. They had failed showing their championing to demonstrate (rule of law) that rule of democracy can bring once a mighty and powerful person to submit and surrender to the rule of law?

    (5) Instead, he was slaughtered and dumped into a desert hole by these leaders of the world who had openly called for his head Dead or Alive? This was strange since this call was made in Libyan capital when these leaders proudly landed in their exclusive private planes. They must be sure that their forces has had consolidated their positions since it shows clearly Libyan leader has lost control of Libya and there was no need to have him killed? The same goes into other Middle East wars initiated by these Western interests. One must not forget that these mercenaries’ fighters were funded, given weapons by the Western Countries who had their own agendas and objectives.

    (6) Such are the rule of laws; we ape to follow on the civil liberty championed by these parties in street demos against democratically elected government! Surely a leader of the opposition was then Deputy Prime Minister, was he then democratically elected?

    (7) In Malaysia, none could deny this is a peaceful country with many opportunities to live in harmony amongst the races, why subdue this harmony with infiltration, surreptitiously for an interest of minority who aspires assimilation values in destroying values that has been build over 55 years of independency or even before independent?

    (8) Yes, I’m naïve or even silly but is this the price that we had to compromised bringing down a government by street demos by instigating actions for a ‘regime change’ and deviating from reforming a cleaner and fairer elections? This is morally and ethically wrong.

    (9) One, need not be a very smart brain to acknowledged the oppositions parties have won very big numbers and has had gain control (rule) couple of states within their control, how this was possible if there was an fraud?

    (10) Similarly, bringing in the values anti-establishments, hooliganisms, vandalisms cultures and retrospectively, putting all blames on agent provocateurs are simply showing that the leaders are of bias values, only good showing figures at others faults, not capable demonstrating able leadership by taking responsibilities when things had gone awry?

    (11) Huge numbers are big risks for all parties (irrespective which side you are representing) in any street demo. Since emotions can run very negatively high as provocation are orders of the day, its’ simply dangerous in allowing small children and ladies taking active role in such demos.

    (12) Its’ an open secret that these big numbers are followers of NGO of variable interest and many of whom are strong (die hard) supporters of political parties but it is very sad that such turn-outs are easily swayed into taking matters into their own hands.

    (13) In any event, without condoning any brutality of the force (if any), the authorities would be blamed on most cases since they are the custodian protectors of people’s assets in keeping the law and order. Sadly, the forces are always viewed and judged too quickly that we forget to remind ourselves that they too are humans with emotions but the street rioters also beat them up.

    (14) I believe Bersih Group has a very dangerous Agenda and this must be curtailed (if possible) since public order has been compromised far too often. The leader has allowed herself to be a tool of political parties and she clearly has shown bias in her judgements.

    (15) We should not condone street demonstrations since it is not our culture or way of life, it will lead only one thing to another finally may lead to anarchy, this only brings hardships to innocent people. One should not be proud by bringing shame to the country and it is simply not ethical using street demos for achieving one’s self interest.

    (16) I hope Malaysia does not go to the medieval ages.

    (17) May God Bless this country which had been my home from birth.

YABhg Tun, many thanks for giving me an opportunity to express my thoughts. I pray you are bless with good health always.

    Salam.

    Tun

Wahai orang orang beriman. Ramai diantara kamu was was terhadap peliwat dan tok guru ajaran sesat ini. Agama menyuruh kiter meninggalkan perkara was was ni.

Aper nak was was lagi? Nak jadi macam orang nasrani ker masih degil?

Kata nak ikut sunnah nabi tapi nasihat peliwat tak yah buat sumpah laknat tu.. Ishhh sunah nabi maner tah tok guru ni pakai.. Ishhh

Kesimpulannya. Peliwat+tok guru ajaran sesat dan rakyat masih nak junjung, memang confirm la bala mau mari, gempa dah start sikit sikit kat mesia ni. Baca Al-Quran.

    Salam.

    Dear Tun,

Thanks for your usual direct and honest thoughts of ‘Bersih’.

I was really dying to wait for your comment about the recent ‘unnecessary attention’ that happened on the 28th April to our beloved country.

You know I have voted since GE ’99, ’04, and ’08, and so far have never witnessed or have any sense of lost of confidence with our current election process and law.

It is really a waste of time and energy and resource that last Saturday (and not to mention the previous BERSIH episodes in 2011 and 2007), that these poor, ‘misinformed’, highly emotional, over politicize, over reaction masses of Malaysians and perhaps accompanied with possibly handful of foreigners demonstrating for reforms of our election process.

What the hack! We have several GEs in the past and of course the ‘rakyat’ has already made its choice on which party should run the show for Malaysia.

Of course 2008 was definitely a shocker and ‘awe’ effect cause of losing 5 states to the Opposition and not having 2/3 majority for the first time. That clearly shows that the voices and voting power of the rakyat made a big impact to the country’s political landscape and stability.

Also not to mention on that same year the return of Anwar Ibrahim to the parliament especially winning big at his traditional ‘Permatang Pauh’ indicated that the parlimentary election is never tainted or intervene by anybody. In that by-election, BN was defeated badly despite putting a local or Penang born and experience candidate to compete against the so-called mighty Anwar Ibrahim.

It is just unfortunate and utterly disgusting that there are just some folks who really have no issues to fight and simply ‘picking’ on the Election Commission as a political issue not just to gain to their advantage in making unjustified foolish rhetorics, but also ‘fooling’ and lying to the the poor misinformed Malaysians.

If you are a BERSIH supporter, please wake up and smell the teh tarik!

Be thankful at this moment our country is still stable and free from chaos or political/economic instability. The BERSIH cause has already been ‘poisoned’ and politicize unnecessarily for personal cause of a so-called few. Be an informed and rational mind rakyat, read and understand the election laws and process before making bias conclusion that already has been influenced largely by the irresponsible and ‘think know best’ bloggers and politicians in the internet.

Our election law and process is one of the best in the world and not to mention even Myanmar learned from our election system back then. That is why they have finally managed to run their election last year.

May God blessed our country for peace and stability and free from the ‘plague’ that is creeping to our everyday life.

  61. ilovemuslims May 5,2012 12:34 AM

    Salaam Tun.

    Hope all is well.

Had Anwar, Ambiga and all the protester been a Singaporean,
the ISD here would have put them away underground long before BERSIH 1.

I am not a racist, but I think Muslims in Malaysia should protect Malaysia from people like Ambiga, Anwar, Lim Eng Guan and those protestors from BERSIH3.

Especially those Muslims protestors in BERSIH 3. dont realise they are being deceived by Ambiga, Anwar and Lim Eng Guan and the like. Dont they realise that they are being used? Wake up!!!

I can say for many Muslims in Singapore that Anwar is getting overboard with his behaviours. We think he is sick man, a psycho who has lost the plot.

I hope and doa that other Malaysian Muslims who are not part of the protestors, please protect your countries from the higher unseen evil.

Also be wary of CNA Reporters and Straits Times Reporters like Carolyn Hong, Leslie Lopez, Hazlin Hassan…they get Journalism award for all the negative news they report about Malaysia, UMNO and Malays. These reporters are running away from real issues in their own backyard.

On the positive side re BERSIH 3, Singaporeans (Chinese/Indian/Malays) believe and admire that Malaysia is a truly democratic country.

We cannot even imagine BERSIH3 ever take place in Singapore.

Because of this, we are indeed envious of our neighbours in Malaysia.

    Long Live Malaysia!!!

    Salam Tun,

I am a student of psychological warfare reading works of Joseph Goebbles.

The problem is that the rakyat do not understand Govt’s success in making changes for the benefit of the people. They do not understand logic. As quoted by dale carnegie, “We are dealing with creatures of sentiments not logic. ETP, GTP, EPP, NKRA, NKEA to the mass sounds very logical however it doesn’t appeal to them.

What the government should do is to have powerful publicity campaigns to evoke the silent majority (BN) to come up and show their support.

It is sad to see the govt is always on the defensive. The govt has absolutely poor psywar campaign!

Maybe Tun can educate them on psychological warfare/propaganda.

Wish you all the best, TUN!

    Wassalam,

    Fariz

  63. mubarakchan May 4,2012 11:03 PM

    Tun

I fully support your wise and rational comments on Bersih 3.

Even though I missed the dark transitional period during which the Japanese abdicated their powers before the arrival of the British at the end of the Second World War in Asia on 15 August 1945, I did not miss the Penang riots of 1967 and the 13 May 1969 riots in Kuala Lumpur.

I am completely apolitical and independent in my observations of the prominent personalities in public life on both sides of the Causeway since October 1951.

In fact, I was offered the best and only seat for a Chinaman in the Selangor Executive Legislative Council if I had stood in the Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor constituency for the 1969 elections. And in 1973, I was offered the Batu Berendam, Melaka, Federal seat by which the post of Deputy Minister of Finance was attached to it. I felt there were others who were more qualified for the jobs.

It is paramount in any civil society of any country that mob rule should be avoided. The Oxford Dictionary defines civil as ‘ polite and courteous ‘. I remember some politicians were touting for Malaysia to have a holistic civil society. But our people seem to be going in the opposite direction ! With the frequent manifestations of street riots for political ends, which description could not be otherwise, since 1998, our citizens are slowly being imbued or brainwashed with the idea that anything that was apparently unobtainable by the rule of law, maybe perhaps, be gained faster through the use of brute force in visual terms.

In this particular instance, the rousing of the ordinary people to march to the tune of the piper. There is an interesting aspect in this call. Most of the marchers paid for their own transport. If a political party has 100,000 members, it is no problem at all to congest a small open space with 30,000 members. Hence, the local and world wide propaganda value of such a display of enhanced leverage of innocent participants in such demonstrations.

For those uninitiated in Malaysian politics, the organisers of the Bersih-bersih tried to put it to the world that Malaysia too has her Malaysian Spring. I am sorry to say Tun that in Malaysia we only have equable weather, no spring, summer, autumn or winter.

For those who are unaware about this, Malaysia had her Malaysian Spring in 1946 with the aborted Malayan Union. Please take a look back in history.

The concept of the Bersih-bersih is based completely on a wrong premise. It illustrates the impact of the mass media on the populace at large which shows nightly scenes of demonstrations around the world from Greece to all sorts of places, forgetting that these developed countries have well-endowed social systems to pay for all those marching in the streets as one, a homogeneous population with a single religion. And the crowds were rioting to keep these socio-economic goodies !

In Malaysia, we see with our own eyes young students and elderly couples joined the throng. Both groups are well-endowed by the Government of the day.

What are they rioting for ? Again, the Oxford Dictionary defines a riot as a violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd.

From my experience in dealing with my fellow Malaysians who are generally peaceful and law-abiding, there are deeper issues fanning the flames in their hearts. And these flames cannot be put out or doused by means of demonstrations of any kind but only through wise and firm leadership which can only be provided by the Government of the day because the flames are of different kinds in different hearts and bodies unlike those in foreign lands !

On the assumption that the population of the country is 27 Millions, what is 100,000 persons demonstrating in the streets of Kuala Lumpur ? Does this mean that 100,000 persons can force a Government elected through the legal election process to step down ? Or is it a demonstration to the world, there is a better alternative which is the use of fisticuffs on those who disagree with the demonstrators which in the last instance were the police ?

Yes ! I agree that there have been many instances in other parts of the world especially South America, where there have been changes of governments through demonstrations. But these were states with homogeneous populations with a single religion and widespread poverty because of dictatiorial policies creating socio-economic inequalities. And they were flotsam bobbing in a sea of foreign hegemony !

For Malaysia, this form of creating a change of government is entirely new and dangerous because of the compartmentalised communities which were the political left-overs of the British.

I sincerely believe that the major socio-economic issues should be resolved first as soon as possible. And then, in the calmness of peace and stability, we let wisdom and fair policies prevail because Malaysia has come far and it is unwise to lock horns and bang the table-top to demand for this and that. This can only lead to the road of no return. Those who spent long years in the Government should understand this very well that the recent spate of financial misdemeanours was due to the apparent lack of administrative controls since 2003 !

We all know what happened to Sri Lanka or the Isle of Serendipity.

Fortunately, we Malaysians are peace-loving and law-abiding or else we would have 1,000,000 Million on the streets of Kuala Lumpur last Saturday !

No Que Sera Sera for us. We are proud Malaysians of a unique land !

  64. NASH May 4,2012 10:11 PM

All these I blame Pak Lah. He released Anwar unconditionally and corruption cases against Anwar were closed without trail. Go back to history he did organised demonstration against our late Tengku and after succession he organised more and more. I strongly believe if PKR is to loose in PRU13 he will organise another demonstration blaming that the election is not fair. Our Govt should be prepared to do something on him. There will be no end.

Salam Tun yang budiman dan pembaca sekalian,

    2. Where do I start?

Kasihanilah kami, sesungguhnya Engkau Maha Pemurah lagi Maha Mengasihani.

    10. Ya Allah Ya Tuhan Kami. Perkenankanlah!!!”

    YABhg CHEDET
    Salam Hormat

A Fool In The Home Ministry Dreams Mahathir
(is worth the sum total of kepala batas and pekan)

Excellent argument presented with facts and logic right.
The rebuttal by the BERSIH group would be that the coming PRU13 is where the trickery and chicanery will take place. In the words of a fallen dictator this PRU13 is The Mother of All Election Manipulation. This is what one would call the pre-emptive strike.

As for the element of Arab Spring, it is just a small gamble by BERSIH’s Ambiga and A Samad Said. There may – should – be a bonus for this couple of little educated, very concerned rakyats if they had pulled it off. Senatorships and Tuns would be a good reward for the BERSIH 3.0 heads. One stand firm on this. Godd work deserves good rewards; this elemental in the idea of Minimum Wages.

Since the UMNO President has his favorite fool from Semberong as Home Minister, CHEDET, your words are like the Malay maxim: mencurah air ke keladi.

Make sure the PR could not prove that the mother of all election manipulation does not happen in the PRU13, CHEDET.
There is a story circulating around of a Kampong Kemboja in Langkawi whose kampong folks get to be Malaysian for a while, it seems.
    Sekian
